How to weave paper

Lay your paper down so the long sides are horizontal and the short sided are vertical

Fold your paper in half "hamburger style".

Along the folded side of the paper, measure and mark every inch.

Cut through each of your inch marks on the folded side of the paper. Stop when you get about an inch from the end of your paper.

Open your paper and turn it so the long sides are now vertical.

My pattern will be over 2, under 2. Notice how my first row ends with white going over 1.

Because I ended with "over one", I must start with "over one", because 1 + 1 =2.

My 2nd row ended "over 2" so I continue the pattern on the 3rd row by starting "under 2".

The 3rd row ends with "under 1" so the 4th row must continue "under 1" more.

Repeat the pattern of weaving until your paper is full.

Slide papers to straighten and remove gaps.

All done with weaving.

We are going to glue on a mitten so the weaving fills the negative space. To add texture and interest we will use painted paper rather than solid construction paper
