How to weave a jim dine heart

Start with pre-painted watercolor - warm/cool colors.

Turn pages over. Write "warm colors" at top of warm color page. Write "cool color" at top of cool color page. Align a ruler at top of only one page. Draw a horizontal line against bottom of ruler.

Fold both pages so words are on top.

Align ruler vertically along side of paper. Draw vertical line against ruler edge from horizontal line to bottom of page (Do not draw line above horizontal line). Repeat across page 3 more times.

Align ruler vertically against side of paper. Draw vertical line from top of page to bottom of page. Repeat 3 more times.

Cut along 4 vertical lines on cool color page but do not cut past horizontal line. Cut along 4 vertical lines on warm color page through top of page so that there is 5 individual strips.

Turn cool color page over. Turn warm color strips over.

Begin to weave warm color strip over then under cool color strips.

Continue until entire strip is woven. Repeat with remaining 4 warm color strips.

Begin to weave second strip starting under then over cool color strip. Continue with remaining three strips, alternate starting over, then starting under and then starting over.

Use glue stick to glue all ends down.

Turn page over. Continue to glue all ends down.

Put glue on entire Xerox paper.

Glue Xerox paper to back of woven mat.

Fold project in half. Draw half of a large heart on one side of folded paper.

Cut heart out along line while paper is folded.

Add glue to back of heart.

Place heart on the center of 9 x 9 construction paper. Using a black crayon, draw a shadow on the construction paper around the outline of heart.

Lightly color with black crayon around edge of heart.

Sign your name to bottom of artwork on construction paper.
