How to use recycled book pages in a mixed media collage.

Adhere book paper to mat board with Modge podge. Coat the top to seal the surface. Allow wrinkles to remain and create a textured surface. Let the Modge podge dry.

Add a light wash of color by thinning an acrylic color with water. Paint on and let it dry.

Add layers of white (or colored) tissue paper on top and seal with Modge podge.

Next add a few drops of liquid India ink and hold the board vertically. The ink will follow the textural lines of the wrinkled surface.

Add more layers of tissue paper and seal with modge podge to create different layers of translucency over the color. You can also add additional pieces of crumpled book pages.

Using acrylic paint colors, add thin layers using a wet on wet application technique.

Rub an oil pastel lightly over the surface to highlight the textural lines. Spray with a fixative to seal the surface and prevent the oil pastel from smearing.
