RAM is a device that allows information to be stored and fetched on a computer. unlike ROM or the hard drive, RAM is a volatile memory and requires power to keep the data accessible.

Flash memory is a type of nonvolatile memory that erases data in units called blocks. A block stored on a flash memory chip must be erased before data can be written, or programmed, to the microchip.

ram is only temporary and is volatile. as soon as the computer is switched off it erases all data that is of no importance and sends important data to the ROM

RAM is also needed so that you can have multiple windows up and are easily able to asses them without having to type the web address over and over again

However, if you have a lot of windows, documents and different applications running, you might find that your system starts to slow down. This is because your RAM is full up and decides what is needed

ROM or read only memory is nonvolatile so it cant be edited and even when the computer is switched off it will not lose the data saved onto it

This kind of memory is needed because the computer must be able to obtain instructions from the moment it is switched on and it must know some basic things about the hardware that makes up the machine

ROM is a special kind of memory which stores the instructions which the computer uses when it 'boots up' - the BIOS (basic input output system)
