How to turn the read receipt off for messaging in ios 7

Press the Settings icon on your homescreen

Scroll down and tap on Messages

Toggle the "send read receipts" switch to the left

Viola! Now your text recipients won't be able to tell if you read their message...which in turn doesn't require an immediate response
