I used Costco's photo prints; They held up well and the ink didn't smudge.
Apply a coat of mod podge over the entire surface the edges and the picture. Allowed to dry completely again. It will look milky at first, but will dry clear.

Be careful not to gab too hard, the photograph is fragile. You can see by my black-and-white photo.
