How to tack up a horse

Secure your horse and use a curry comb to rub in small circular motions all along the body, skipping the head and lower legs.

Use a hard brush in small flicking motions all along the body, skipping the head.

Use a soft brush in long flicking motions along the entire body.

Use the mane and tail comb gently on the mane, just like you would comb human hair. Rarely comb tail hair to prevent breaking.

Use hoof pick to pick out dirt, skipping the triangle shaped frog in the middle of the hoof.

Take a clean brush and apply the hoof hardener to the outside and bottom of the foot, avoiding the frog.

Place the martingale around the neck.

Set the saddle pad on the upper part of the back near the neck.

Place the half pad on top of the saddle pad.

Set the saddle gently on the back and pull the half pad and saddle pad up under the front of the saddle.

Attach the girth to the saddle and martingale.

Place bridle on head and buckle the nose and throat latches.
