How to survive poverty

Survive Poverty

4
STEPS
TOOLS

First, calm down and determine the level of severity in the given situation. Decide which basic survival needs are lacking- food, water, shelter, medicine? Call 2-1-1 for assistance.

Next, find out where your local department of job and family services is located. Ask about food stamps, Medicaid, TANF, and rental/utility assistance as needed. Mention any dependent children.

Consider any specific personal circumstances that may be contributing to your current situation. Seek help for chronic medical or mental health issues.

Find creative ways to save money if you have an income. For example, grow a garden, walk or take a bus to work, reuse last year's school supplies, or shop at dollar stores.

Realize that everyone goes through difficult times in life and it is possible to make it to the other side of poverty.
