How to survive gcse exams!

Survive GCSE Exams!

STEPS
TOOLS

I am in the middle of my GCSE's and as everyone knows they are very stressful! But they don't have to be if you have a clear plan to help you acheive the highest grades possible!

Design a timetable each week of what topic you are going to study/revise every day but remember to take 1 day off! Make sure you have all the resources you need!

Find your exam style, e.g. some people prefer to record their french speaking exam and listen to it or some people prefer to read their script over and over again till memorized.

Past papers are a must when it comes to revising for exams. They show a good idea of what the real exam will be like and how the questions are laid out. You can find them at: www.aqa.org.uk

When doing past papers, its a good idea to check out the marking scheme too so you have a clear idea of how to write your answers.

Practising exam style questions help the real exam day less daunting because you know how the questions will be worded and you will find them easier to understand.

Having a friend to help you revise always makes it less stressful and also fun! Choose 1 evening a week where you go to each others house to catch up on schoolwork and help each other with revision!

This may seem the worst thing any kid would want to do but in order to acheive high grades you have to sacrifice free time. Even if you can just manage 1 hour a day... every bit of revision helps!

Don't cram your head full of facts that may not be needed at all in any exam. Thoroughly learn the information that is needed and keep revising the same topic over and over again!

I know so many people who start to revise the week before the exam. They become overtired, stressed and the information is not as easily remembered. Revise in small chunks over a long period of time.

Work hard and pay attention in class - I know this may seem obvious but I tend to play the fool in class but when i'm quiet and work hard, I acheive a lot and it makes getting high grades much easier!

You may not get on well with the teacher you have but don't let this drag you down in acheiving a good grade. Learn to self direct your learning!

Music and videos are great: If you watch a video, it is easier to visualize what happened than to see it written down. A certain song you listen to while revising can help you remember certain parts!

Don't shut yourself away for hours and study till your brain goes dead, take time off to enjoy yourself and give your brain time to breathe! If you plan well, things won't be stressful!
