So since I've already done this, I can't do a step by step, but it's pretty simple, find the studs in the ceiling of your garage with either a stud finder or if you can, crawl up in your attic.

I have metal studs so I crawled up in the attic and drilled through them from the top them bolted these in. Make sure you buy hardware that can support the weight of your kayaks.

Measure the distance you want for the mounts, I used about 4 feet.  Click the picture for a bigger view

Measure the distance for your front and back ones and figure out where they fit in relation to the studs in your ceiling.

Kinda sucks that I had to hang this one over the entrance to my attic, but I don't have much room to work with.

The most important thing is, once you thread your strap though the bolts and though itself to create a loop, tie a knot in the end. This is in the event the buckle slips, your kayak won't fall
