For an Organic method, use a disposable tray, like a pie tin. Dig the soil down slightly about 6-10 inches away from the plant so that the it sits flush with the ground. Fill the tin with beer.

The slugs will go for the beer and drown in it. It make a gooey mess hence the disposable tray.
