Acoustic Guitar. This is the acoustic version
Standard Tuning for this song
The first chord you'll need is D.
The D chord will last through the lyrics "I got my first real six string"
The second chord is A.
The A chord will last through the lyrics "Bought it at the five and dime."
The chord will keep alternating back and forth from D to A with each line.
When you get to the lyrics "Oh when I look back now." The chords will now be this....
The Chord Bm will last through the words "Oh when I.."
Then when it gets to the words "..look back now." You are going to play the A chord.
You are going to then play the D chord for the words "Thad summer seemed to.." And then play the A chord for the words "..last forever"
This chord pattern is the same exact for the rest of the song.
Here is the chords for the bridge part towards the end of the song.
The strumming pattern is a syncopated strum.
For the riff, the first part will be based off of the D chord.
You are going to start with your 3rd (middle finger) off of the 1st string 2nd fret. So it looks like this.
Then you are going to add your 3rd (middle) finger back on so it is back to the full D chord.
Then you are going keep the D chord, but add you pinky finger onto the 1st string 3rd fret. It looks like this.
Then you are going to take off your pinky so it is again back to the regular D chord.
Take your 3rd finger off again so it looks like this.
Then add your 3rd pinky on so your back to the D chord.
Here is what your fingers will LOOK like without sound.
The next part of the riff is based off of the A chord.
For this part, I find it easier to play the A chord like this.
Then you are going to take off your 3rd finger off the 2nd string 2nd fret
Then you are going to add it back on so you are again at the A chord.
Next you are going to add your 4th finger (pinky) to the 2nd string 3rd fret
Take your pink off so you are once again back at the normal A chord
Release your 3rd finger again
And then add it back on to be back at the A chord.
You will be using these 3 fingers to play finger the riff.
