STEPS
TOOLS
Paint colors: red, peach, lime green, black and white, and gold. Two brushes: 1/2" flat head, and small round tip.
First, use chalk to sketch Santa. Begin at the bottom third by drawing two curved lines about 2 inches a part.
Then draw a small curve in the center for a nose with two larger curves on each side for cheeks. Add two dots for eyes above the nose.
Draw a big curly mustache just under the nose and cheeks that extends all the way to the edge of the canvas.
Once little curved line under the mustache for the mouth.
Using the rule of thirds, draw a circle on the top left focal point. Or right, whichever you want. This will be the puff ball.
Draw the left side of the cap with a curvy line like this.
And then down the other side like this.
Whoa! It's time to paint red. Use a 1/2" brush to paint the cap red. Leave the bottom section rugged as the band of the cap is fuzzy.
Mix a tiny amount of black with the red on the pallet and paint darker red around the outer edges of the cap.
Now use your smaller round tip brush to paint his little mouth.
Use a peachy color to paint his face.
Mix a tiny amount of red with the peachy color to make a pinkish color.
Paint his nose and cheeks with the pinkish Peachy color.
Wow, lime green, AKA, chartreuse. You can use any color you wish for the background. I went with green.
Now we need to make grey. Notice the large amount of white to the small amount of black? Mix a little black with a lot of white to make light grey.
Grey.
Then, while the grey is still wet, paint white over the beard, mustache, band of cap, and puff ball pressing your brush down in such a way as to add texture.
Next use the white paint to add a highlight to the nose and cheeks.
And some white accent marks to the edges of the cap.
Now it's time to start outlining with black. Use a thin brush, and try not to breath.
Draw a curve line for the top of the nose, two dots for eyes, and underline the mount.
Out line the mustache to show off the curl.
Use a fun, active line for the outline of the puff ball and cap band to show off their fluffy texture.
Add some black accent marks on the outer edges of the cap.
Now for some shiny gold. I use Chroma Molten Medals Metalic Acrylic paint, Dorado Gold. But you can use any metallic paint.
We are going to use the gold to add texture to the background.
And add some accents on the hat.
I even added some to the beard. It's so pretty, I can't stop myself.
I used the small brush and white paint to make some twinkles. Ta Da, all done;) Merry Christmas.
