First, gather your toothpicks and cotton ball.

Take your cotton ball and 1 toothpick. Stick one end of the toothpick into the cotton as shown.

Using the toothpick, gently pull some of the cotton away. Be careful about pulling too much...it won't work as well with too much cotton.

Once you pull some cotton, use your other hand to pinch the cotton to the toothpick. As you're pinching, use your other hand to twist the toothpick until the cotton wraps tightly around the toothpick.

Repeat on the other end to get the most use out of it. As you can see, I have nice pointed ends with the cotton...it's not too thick.
