Combine oil and butter in pot. Turn stove on and allow butter to completely melt. (I usually use heat setting 6) :)
Put kernels in. Oil should barely cover kernels. You may choose to add seasoning salt now or at the end. I usually add it when the kernels are cooking, makes a better flavor. Cover pot with lid.
The popcorn will pop within the first 5 or 6 minutes. There is no need to shake the pot, once the kernels begin popping, that will prevent them from burning.
When you no longer hear popping, empty popcorn into bowl immediately to prevent burning
Enjoy! If you enjoy a more salty-buttery taste, you can substitute margarine for butter.
