Gather and clean your apples.
Peel, core, and slice the apples.
Keep the apple peels for garnish. I baked the peels at 200 degrees F for about one hour, until they were crispy.
Cut the cored apples in half.
Drizzle lemon juice over the apples to prevent browning.
Gather the rest of your ingredients.
Add the salt,
Brown sugar,
Fennel seeds,
Ginger,
And ground cinnamon with two cinnamon sticks.
Pour in three cups water.
Stir to mix ingredients together.
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for five hours.
Five hours later....
Uncover and stir.
Scoop the applesauce
Into a glass container.
Save some warm applesauce for you to taste.
Gather the crunchy baked apple peels for garnish.
Eat up. Fennel seeds and ginger are the secret weapon to amazing applesauce.
