I'd recommend that your butter is slightly more than room temperature before starting.

If you just got your butter out of the refrigerator, I'd recommend you microwave one stick of butter for 10 seconds, then flip it, and repeat. Do the same thing with the other stick of butter.

Cream the sugar and the butter until it looks somewhere around this. I find that using your hands is easier, but you can a spatula if you would prefer.

Take out a half cup of flour, and put two and a half cups of flour in the sugar and butter.

Cut into any shape you like, I cut squares. It's best to make them 1/4 of an inch, but it doesn't really matter.And make sure the cookie sheet you use is ungreased.

Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.

So, there is the finished product! Top as you please, and enjoy! FYI, these cookies were accidentally baked 5 minutes over. But, they tasted fine.
