Preheat the oven to 200c and grease a baking tray.

Sift flour and baking powder into a large bowl.

Cut the margarine into small pieces and add to flour. Rub in the margarine using the fingertips.

Add sugar, raisins or mixed dried fruits, vanilla essence and egg.

Stir evenly to get a stiff dough.

Form the dough into small ball and place on the baking tray.

Bake for about 18 - 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool buns on a cooling rack before serving.
