STEPS
INGREDIENTS
For the bread dough: in a mixer bowl add 2 c bread flour, a packet of yeast, dash of salt and 1/3 c sugar
In a small sauce pan add: 4 TB butter, 2 tsp vanilla and 1/3 c milk. Let this warm up until butter melts
Remove from heat and add 1/4 c water
Add this to the dough and start the mixer
Add 2 eggs and 3/4 c more bread fl. Let your mixer beat this for a few minutes then transfer to a bowl to rise
Transfer to greased bowl. The dough will be sticky and that's fine. Cover and let rise until its doubled in size. About an hour or so
While the bread is rising, warm up 4TB butter and cook until browned up
It will look like this. Very caramely and fragrant. Sit aside and wait to brush on rolled dough
Once the dough is ready, roll out on a floured surface
Roll as thin as you'd like. It doesn't have to be perfectly shaped bc you will be cutting into strips
Brush the entire surface with the browned butter. Then add enough brown sugar to coat well. I used a few hand fulls and a good sprinkle of cinnamon. Press this into the buttered dough
And start to cut long strips. Then each strip cut into bite size pieces
Stack bite size pieces up and place back to back making three rows, into a greased 8x8 dish (ones that are perfectly square in shape)
This dough will fit perfectly into this dish. Preheat your oven to 350, and while its warming up let this dough rest again in the dish. About 15-20 min
Bake LOOSELY covered with some tin foil about 30-40 min. The ends will brown up but the middle might need longer. The foil will keep tops from browning while the middle gets cooked best
Now, these are wonderful as is but I make a caramel glaze to pour ontop: 2TB butter, 2 TB brown sugar, 2 TB milk. Warm that until its bubbly. Then add about 1/2 c powdered sugar
Pour all over the warm bread. Enjoy!!
