INGREDIENTS
Gather the ingredients for the syrup. You need to make the syrup first 🕡
Place all the ingredients in a pan, stir and gently heat till sugar dissolves 🕢
Increase heat and simmer syrup, till it reduces to half it's original volume.Remove from heat, strain into a bowl and leave in fridge to cool, to use later on 🕤 Syrup done!✔
Get the ingredients for the dough
Put all the dry ingredients into a bowl, and add the butter, using your fingertips to create a fine crumb texture. Add the eggs, vanilla essence, and milk to the mixture, mixing till a dough is formed
Tear a teaspoon sized piece of dough and roll into a ball. Divide the ball into 3 and roll into long pieces. Attach all 3 pieces at the top and plait, and press together at the ends 🕥
Heat oil, and fry plaited dough, on both sides in small batches until it changes to a golden colour
Soak hot Koeksisters in cool syrup, roll in coconut (optional) and allow to cool 🕦💯✔♥

- 3.0Tbsp Honey
- 1.0Tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1.0Tbsp Golden Syrup
- 1.0Tbsp Ginger
- 2.0 Cinnamon Sticks
- 500.0g (Dough) Self-raising Flour
- 2.0tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2tsp Salt
- 125.0g Butter
- 2.0 Eggs
- 1.0tsp Vanilla Essence
- 125.0ml Milk
- 100.0g (Optional) Desiccated Coconut
