How to make indian fry bread (white man style)

I don't know how or when this dish became a Native American tradition, but I learned how to make it from my White mother, who learned from my dad's Chippewa family in Minnesota.

Buy some frozen dough from the freezer section of your local grocery store

Thaw dough in the refrigerator overnight. Then slice each loaf in 8-10 pieces and  let it rise slightly for 1-2 hours (optional).  They should look like precooked biscuits.

Depending on the size of your frying pan, pour about 3 cups of oil and turn heat to high/medium high. Wait 5-10 minutes or until oil is hot.

While waiting for oil to heat, get your serving dish ready and lined with paper towels or a thin absorbent cloth.

Stretch piece of dough by the edges, constantly turning it in circle motion. Dough should get about 5-8 inches across. Don't worry about shape or if holes appear. This will help distribute heat evenly

This is what the finished product should resemble. These taste their absolute best fresh out of the oil. Be sure to sample the first one for yourself as you cook the rest.
