We often travel long distances by car. For years we enjoyed chips, sandwiches, candy, ice cream and deep fried wonders during these trips .. Although it always made us feel bad. ...
We then tried to bring fresh fruit ... But being in a car for several hours we don't want to bother with loads of apple cores and orange peels as well as getting all sticky from handling the fruit ...
By now we usually prepare for 3 types of snacks to meet our needs for food as well as for sweets :-) 1: sausage rolls 2: cinnamon rolls 3: prepared fresh fruit
Today we're ready to go to France even though this morning in Denmark is nice and sunny ☀👍
Get started ...
For sausage rolls: grate 3-4 carrots and add them to your first bowl ....
For cinnamon rolls: Add a spoon of sugar ( I like vanilla so I save them in sugar after use = home made vanilla scented sugar)
Let the doughs rest for 30-45 min covered with a damp cloth or just a plate
For sausage rolls: Part the dough. Roll one half to a circle
Divide it into 8 triangles with a sharp knife. Add a little chunky salsa or ketchup on each piece
Add half a sausage and start rolling
Repeat for the next 7 slices ... And for the other half of the dough till you have 16 sausage rolls
For the cinnamon rolls : mix butter, brown sugar and cinnamon
Part the dough. Roll out half of the dough into a big square. Add half you cinnamon mix
Start rolling from the longest side
Cut it into 2 cm slices
Place them on a plate or in muffin forms to keep the sugar from getting away
Same procedure with the other half of the dough till you have like 25 pieces
Let everything rest for 30-45 minutes in a warm place with no draft - preferably covered with a damp cloth
Set the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (~392 degrees Fahrenheit )
While the rolls are resting ... It's time for preparing fruit. Wash the apples and cut them into bite size pieces without the cores. Cutting can be done ...
... Neatly as my mother taught me. Cutting twice through the centre and finally removing the core. These bites are all the same size and shape ... Or ....
... Cutting four times outside the core and the work is done! The method depends on how much packing you still need to do 👀
Put the apple bites in all shapes in cold water with lemon juice to prevent from being brown
Peel and chop the the carrots
Put them besides the apples for company
Find some small tomatoes ... Bite size ...
Now there's a party going on. Drain from the water and put every thing in plastic bags or plastic containers. And now the oven is warm ...
Make the sausage rolls nice and shiny with eggs or milk. Now they're ready for their 20 min in the oven.
A little egg on the cinnamon rolls too ... Now they're ready for their 15 min in the oven
When baking is done. Let everything cool before putting into plastic bags
