This simple project is great for 4-5 year olds. I used the idea in my pre-k classroom. Change the supplies according to what is a available.

Cheap paper plates, any color yarn, plastic ring spiders, plus scissors

With scissors, cut into the paper plate 2-3 inches deep multiple times around the plate. This can be done by child or parent/teacher depending upon the child's ability.

Using yarn, the child wraps it around randomly from spot to spot front to back filling in all the spaces to create what looks like a spider web. Add a plastic spider to the yarn in the process.
