How to make great grandma's bread

I always loved visiting my Great Grandma's house. She had the most fantastic bread waiting for us every time we came. Biting into this bread brought me right back there.

Potato water made by boiling a couple baking potatoes, needs to be luke warm.\nAdd the yeast mixture to the potato water and stir to combine.

Sift 12 cups of flour and salt together I large bowl...I probably should've used a bigger one. Pour the potato water over and mix with your hands.

Cover with a damp towel and let rise about 1 hour.  Knead in the bowl and cover and let rise for another hour. I put a bowl of boiling water next to the bowl of dough and covered both with the towel.

Sprinkle some flour on the counter and dump the dough onto the floured surface. Knead and separate into four parts. Sprinkle flour in the bottom of 4 bread pans. Shape and place the dough in each pan

Bake at 375 degrees until the crust is golden, then turn down to 350 for a total of 45 minutes. Pull the bread out and let cool on a rack. Enjoy the beautiful smells filling your house!

  • 8.0oz Luke warm water
  • 1.0Tbsp Sugar
  • 12.0c Flour, sifted
  • 24.0oz Potato water
  • 1.0Tbsp Salt
