STEPS
TOOLS
Gather supplies: cane sugar, clean pot and utensil, hummingbird feeder, 1 cup measuring cup.
Measure one cup of cane sugar and place in pot. Must be cane sugar! Other sugars do not draw hummingbirds as well, and can contain harmful additives.
Add four cups hot water to pot. You can use cold, but the myth that cold water boils faster than hot is just that! Hot water will get the job done quicker.
Place pot of sugar and water on stove burner and heat to boiling on highest heat setting.
Stir just until sugar dissolves.
All dissolved! From this point you don't need to stir anymore. Just leave the water/sugar mix on the stove until it comes to a boil.
Once a full rolling boil is reached, turn the heat off and remove the pot from the hot burner.
Place a lid over the pot on angle to allow the sugar/water mix to cool completely.
Once cooled, pour into hummingbird feeder and enjoy your visitors! Store extra nectar in an airtight container and refrigerate. Change at least once a week.
