This recipe is based on the cream scone recipe from the Joy of Baking. Ingredients: Sugar, flour, salt, vanilla extract, egg, butter, cream, baking powder.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
In a bowl or a food processor, mix together the flour, salt, baking soda, and sugar.
Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the flour mixture.
Blend the flour mixture with the butter until it forms the consistency of course crumbs.
In a small bowl, beat the egg, vanilla, and cream together, then add it to the flour mixture.
Combine the ingredients together to form a sticky ball.
On a lightly floured surface, roll the ball of dough into a circle using your hands or a rolling pin. It should be about 1/3 inch thick.
Using a cookie cutter or a knife, form the scones into whatever shape you please! The yield will vary depending on the size and shape you choose.
Bake the scones at 375 degrees for about 12 minutes, or until slight cracks are forming on the surface of the scones. They should not be squishy or soft to the touch.
Serve with whipped cream, clotted cream, butter, or jam. Refrigerate or freeze uneaten scones and reheat them in the microwave. Enjoy! :)
