Heat 1.5 tsp oil over medium-high heat.

Add 1/4 tsp salt.

Once the pan is hot, add the Cumin seeds and let them sizzle.

Measure out 1/2 cup of rice. Rinse it under water or soak it for half an hour for fluffier rice.

Lower heat to medium and add the rice.

Add exactly 1 cup of water.

Mix it well and bring to a boil.

Once the water begins to boil, it's time to lower the heat to a low-medium heat. (#4 on the turn dial).

Cover and cook for exactly 12 minutes.

Ahem .. 12 minutes to be exact.

After 12 minutes, uncover and see if the water has been fully absorbed. If not, you can cook for 2-3 more minutes. Fluff and serve with Indian curries!
