STEPS
INGREDIENTS
Chop apples into bite-size pieces. Use apple of your choice. Add to a baking dish and sprinkle with brown sugar.
Sprinkle ground cinnamon & a pinch of salt
Break the egg in a bowl; add vanilla, and another pinch of salt.
... and granulated sugar..
...and milk. Beat the mix to combine ingredients thoroughly but you don't need to fluff up the mix.
Break the bread slices into bite-size pieces and layer them on top of the apples. Try to fill gaps between apples so the juices are absorbed when baked.
Places chunks of butter randomly over the bread pieces..
Spread out the egg mix over the bread. Don't pour at just one spot..
If you like your bread pudding more soggy than crunchy, double the egg batter. I like mine crunchy on top and soggy at the bottom so i use less batter.
Although fresh bread can be used, it tends to be too soft and overly absorbent, turning the pudding into a mush. Stale (NOT moldy) bread is firmer, resulting in a nice texture.
Bake at 350 for 30 mins or until the top becomes toasted and the egg mix is cooked (i.e doesn't look uncooked).
I drizzled maple syrup over it๐ If you like, pour warm custard instead. Enjoy !
