Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Mix your plain flour, self raising flour and coconut in a bowl (you could also add the brown sugar and chocolate chips early).
Melt your butter in the microwave for approx. 30 seconds.
Add the chocolate chips and brown sugar to the mixture. When stirring, use the 'flat' or hard side of your stirring device to crush lumps of brown sugar against the edges of the bowl.
After you have gotten rid of all the lumps in the brown sugar/mixture add the egg and butter separately and stir them into the mixture (again, bumping out lumps).
Mix it all together, getting rid of lumps. Line a baking tray with baking paper and squeeze the mixture gently into balls to space evenly apart (if they break, stir the mixture for longer).
Place them into the oven for around twenty minutes. To judge if they're ready, check their colour. You want them looking a lovely golden shade.
When taking them out of the oven be sure to use oven mitts. If some are joined together than that's all right, just gently split them apart.
Put them onto a baking tray to cool and harden for five minutes and then they are yours for the eating!
Evaluation: They were a bit burnt on the bottom and could have been taken out of the oven/moved during the baking process. It also lacked enough chocolate chips so I will be sure to add more next time
