Put a little vegetable oil in the rice and stir it up

Then add two packets of sazon it makes it a light orange color

Add the sofrito to the bacon right before adding the rice do this on a medium high heat UPDATE: I now take the bacon out and leave the fat of the oil.

Mix the rice in and stir till it looks like that, you may  add chopped sweet peppers now

Dump the entire can of gandulez including the liquid we don't use much water for this

Everyone will love it UPDATE: I crumble the left over bacon on top :-)

  • 1.0 Can of Gandulez / pigeon peas
  • 3.0c White rice
  • 3.0c Packets of sazon with annatto
  • 1.0c Green olives
  • 4.0c Peices of bacon
  • 1.0 Small can of tomato sauce
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2.0 Sweet yellow or red peppers
