How to make an interactive map
I think traveling is one of the most important things you can do. Having a map of where you've been/want to go just seems like a cool way to motivate yourself to keep exploring.

TOOLS

Cut a bunch of pieces of tie wire into about 2 inch strips

Measure out three of your foam boards to match the total surface area of your map in a way they fit. Then use your tie wire as dowels to hold the boards together.

Use masking tape to secure the boards to each other.

Do the last two steps twice. Doing this will make your map more durable. Line the boards up so their seems are offset.

Use Elmer's glue to glue the two boards to each other. Use an exacto knife to trim the edges of the boards to they are uniform.

Find some heavy things to sit on the boards for like five minutes; this will allow a decent amount of bonding.

Apply painters tape around the edges of the board. This adds durability to the board and prevents the boards from separating.

Once the blue tape is applied, feel free to paint it if you want. I just left mine this color but you can do whatever you want.

Use a glue stick to bind the map to the board. I left certain places unglued so I could get a sweet wrinkled look at the end. If you want the map to be flat literally cover the whole board with glue.

Like before, use books or whatever to bind the map to the board.

Find two pieces of excess board. Tape them together and push your pins through this new device.

Grab a shot class or something and cut the excess metal off. This will allow you to use whichever pins you want. Be careful, the part you cut off might go flying so wear goggles.

Push your pins into where you have been and want to go. For me, red means I've been, green means I want to go. I need to buy more greens though lol.

Find a spot where you'd like to hang your map. In this case im getting rid of my calendar from last semester and putting this map in its place.

Use a stud finder to find your drilling locations. Once discovered use whatever screws you have around the house and drill it to the amount you see in the picture.

Grab your hinge system and just make sure everything fits.

Measure another location at least two studs away. And install a second screw in the same manner as the first screw. Make sure the locations are level with each other.

Mark the distance from the screws on the back of your board to where you'd like to hang the hap.

Line up your hinges and screw them in making sure you don't screw through he front. Make sure the hinges are level.

All you have to do is hang up the map and you're done!

Some of the places I've been/want to go. Red=been. Green=go.

If you travel a lot maybe just the state/country you're in, this idea works well for that too. I live in the Bay Area so I'm contemplating making a map just for that.

Basically, I don't want you just knocking this off. I'd like you to take this idea and make something unique and personal. However, I wouldn't be mad if you did lol.

You can get pretty creative with this idea. I am going to make one specifically for the national parks. Also, I might add hanging usbs for different places with pictures of those places on the cards.
