Assemble all necessary ingredients as shown above.
First, you should take out the butter and cream cheese in advance. This way, they'll be fully softened by the time you'll need them.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Get out a mixing bowl of medium to large size.
Add your 1 2/3 cups flour to your mixing bowl.
Next, you need to add your cup of brown sugar.
Then, you can add in your 1/4 cup of cocoa.
Now, you will need to add in a teaspoon of baking soda.
Then, you will need to add 1/2 a teaspoon of salt.
Next, you'll need to add in a single cup of water.
Now, you'll need to add in a 1/3 cup of vegetable oil.
Next, you add the teaspoon of vinegar to the mixture. Then, you add the 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract to your mixture.
You'll need to pour the mixture into an 8 inch square pan (8x8x2).
You'll need to put the batter into the oven for 35 minutes. However, you may need to bake the cake slightly longer than this.
To tell if the cake is done, insert a toothpick into the center. Then, remove the toothpick. If it is clean, or only has a few crumbs on it, the cake is done. If not, the cake needs to bake longer.
While the cake is baking, you can make the frosting.
To begin, you'll need to gather all of the needed ingredients.
Rinse out the mixing bowl you used to create the cake batter. You'll need it to mix the frosting in as well.
Now that you've rinsed your mixing bowl, you can add in 3 tablespoons of milk. You might need more milk later.
Next, you will need to add in your 8 ounces of softened cream cheese.
Now, you'll need to add in 4 cups of confectioners sugar.
For this step, you'll need to add the 1/4 cup of softened butter.
Then, you need to add in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
Now, you must add in a 1/2 cup of cocoa.
Finally, add in a 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
Beat the ingredients together until they are of a desired consistency. More milk may need to be added if the frosting is too thick.
Before you frost the cake, you'll want to verify it's cooled completely.
Once the cake has fully cooled, you can frost and enjoy your cake!
