How to make an easy banded goblet pleat drapery

Make a basic drapery panel with hems on bottom and sides. Cut off across the top at the finished drapery length.

Measure the width of your hemmed drapery panel and cut a piece of banding material with the finished width plus 2" by 5 1/2". The banding material can be cut straight or on the bias.

With the drapery panel face up, place the banding material even with the top edge and tuck under 1''.

Sew along the top 3/4'' down from the edge. This will create a 3/4'' banding. When you reach the other end of the banding, tuck under the extra fabric and sew to the end.

Press along the seam from the front of the banding.

Turn the banding to the back, wrapping over the top edge. Press with an iron along the top to create a 3/4'' banding.

Place the Goblet Pleat tape over the back-top of the drapery panel. Follow tape instructions for placement of the repeat indicating dots to center the tape.

Inset the Goblet Pleat tape 3/4'' from the top edge.

Pull out shirring cords and pin the tape to the drapery.

Sew the tape to the drapery along the top and bottom edges of the tape using a matching thread. Be sure to sew down or tie off the cords on one end.

Pull up the three heavier cords to create the pleats.

The pleats are formed by pulling the cords. Manipulate the fabric so that the areas between the pleats is flat.

Pull the narrow cord to create the gathering at the base of the pleats.

If you find the narrow cord is difficult to pull, wrap the cord around a small ruler; this will make it easier to pull.
