How to make a spider out of some garbage and mod podge

A spider paper mâché project that can help teach patience, structure, hand eye coordination and how to use some trash to make something out of nothing!

Sadly did not get pictures of the first step, guess I was too excited. Anywho, we used some watered down Mod Podge to make paper m\u00e2ch\u00e9 bodies with balloons and paper bags and let them hang overnight.

The next day they were hard and ready! A little snip to the top under the knot with scissors (the best part in my opinion)

Alrighty! Got them all pulled out. The students loved this part but also had to concentrate and use hand eye skills to get the popped balloons out.

Grab a bottle cap (milk, soda, whatever) and hot glue that dude over the balloon hole. Might wanna help with this part depending on age or ability of your students, don't want burned digits!

We have a recycle cap jug, they come in handy for tons of crafts.

Used some saved fruit cups to hold our cute pre-spider torsos for easy and mess free painting.

Get to painting! Take your time! Talk about spiders and stuff with everyone! Wait for the top half to dry then flip over and paint the bottom.

Twist up some pipe cleaner legs or don't twist them and use a solid color. Whatever spins your web!

We stuck with the black widow theme. Before we did this step we practiced painting the hourglass shape on paper before committing to our spider back.

We attached the straight legs to the belly of Mr. Widow with more hot glue.

Make sure you have the right amount of legs! Eight! Excuse our beat up table, it has seen a lot of art projects.

Spread and bend the legs into position, takes a bit of fiddling to get them just right but once again, encourage that patience makes everything look better in the end!
