Gather all the materials. We use tape dispensers as they are easier to use with one hand while building.
Start with the plastic vellum and two cardboard tubes.
Roll up the plastic vellum. Insert one end to the toilet tube.
Side the other cardboard tube on the opposite end of the vellum. This will hold it in the right size as you tape it together.
We will be putting 4 piece of clear tapes to hold the plastic vellum. To start, we put one piece of tape on the middle left side of the plastic vellum.
Then tape the middle right side of the vellum.
Slide the right toilet tube toward the middle so that you have space to tape down the end of the vellum tube.
Now slide the left toilet tube toward the middle and tape the left end of the vellum tube.
We can now take out one of the toilet tube. We will only need one as part of the end product.
Slide the plastic vellum tube to about half way up in the toilet tube.
Tape the cardboard tube and the plastic vellum together with the colored masking tape.
You can decorate the handle of the lightsaber using different colors of tape. Create your own patterns - this is your lightsaber!
Let's add the light! We will need an LED light, a button battery, and a 1.5" x 4.5" strip of cardboard. Notice we cut against the grain of the cardboard.
Test to make sure that your LED is working by put it on a button battery. Put the long leg to the positive (+) side and short leg on negative (-) side of the battery. (Flip it if it doesn't work)
To create a switch, put a piece of masking tape to cover a small area of the button battery.
Then slide the button battery in between the LED's legs. See how the legs are NOT touching the battery sides? Test it by pressing the ends of the two LED legs gently to make sure it lights up.
Next, we are going to make the cardboard piece to hold the LED. To do it, we bend the piece of cardboard into three equal parts.
Place the LED light along with the button battery on to the middle section of the cardboard piece.
Put a long piece of tape to hold the LED and the button battery in place. Make sure not to tape it down too tight. notice it is off .
Now when you bend the sides the tape stretches and pulls against the legs over the battery and ... it turns on!
Wrap another piece of tape to make a pull tap. This will make it easier to pull it out of the Lightsaber for turning it on and off or to replace battery.
It should look like the image above.
Grab the lightsaber and turn on the LED light. Insert LED light into the handle of the Lightsaber.
Get in a darker room and have fun with your Lightsaber!
