Recipe Step 1. Lightly stir together all of the dry ingredients. Step 2. Add liquids directly into the dry ingredient mixture from step 1. Step 3. Beat together until smooth
Recipe continued. Step 4 pour mixture into pan Step 5 bake at 350 degrees F for 30-35 minutes
Gather the dry ingredients together
Then gather your liquid ingredients together
Then gather your tools and measuring devices needed for this recipe
Also include the large mixing bowl
Always before cooking. Wash your hands and make sure you have the necessary equipment to make your recipe
Measure out 3 cups of flour using the dipping method so as to not compress the flour. Use the wooden spoon to level it off. Place these 3 cups of flour directly into the large mixing bowl.
Then add 2 cups of sugar. There is no need to use the dipping method here but do level the sugar off before placing it in the large mixing bowl
Then by using the dipping method add 1cup of cocoa. This time level it off over the mixing bowl. This will give a little extra flavor while not letting the cake become to bitter
This is now the time to start the oven. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Now add the 2 teaspoons of leveled baking soda.
Now add 1/2 teaspoons of salt.
Mix all of the dry ingredients together to get a uniform light brown color.
It should look something like this.
This is where we add all of the liquid ingredients. All of the liquids go directly into the large mixing bowl containing the dry ingredients. Add 2 Tablespoons of vinegar
2 teaspoons of vanilla
Measure out 2/3 cup of oil. Here I used Wesson canola oil.
Pour the oil in
Then measure 2 cups of cold water.
Place it on a level surface so as to see if any needs to be poured out.
Pour the 2 cups of water into the mix
Plug your electric beater into the wall securly
Make sure that when mixing you have minimal space between the mixing bowl and the beater. Also make sure there is minimal space that the cord of the beater covers so as to prevent injury of any kind.
Beat the mixture in the large bowl on the lowest speed and steadily increase the speed as the mixture becomes more fluid and the same throughout.
This is a great time to utilize one of your spatulas
While mixing, continuously scrape the sides of the bowl to mix in any unmixed clumps or dry ingredients.
Your final mixture in the bowl should be smooth and should have a dark brown lol to it.
This is the time to use the 9x13 pan. Do not grease the pan.
Pour all of the contents into the pan as best as you can
Use the other spatula to help you scrape any excess mixture off the side into the pan.
This is what it should look like when it is all completely in the pan.
The oven should be ready at this time.
Place the pan on the middle shelf of the oven.
Set the timer for 30 minutes. If the cake does not look ready then set the timer for 5 extra minutes. Do not exceed 40 minutes as it may start to burn around the edges.
Using a toothpick determine if the cake is done. Stick the toothpick into the cake and make sure it reaches the bottom of the pan. It's done If it pulls out easy with no batter on the sides.
Prepare a hot pad and oven mitts for when it is ready.
The finished product should look like this.
After it has cooled to a desired temperature you may put on any desired toppings. I sifted on powdered sugar.
Now you can cut the cake and enjoy!
