Tools needed
Using 1 mt square for the base , fold in half , then fold in half again
Measure down 1.5 inches from point for neck opening
Measure down 16.5 inches from point for outer ring
Draw 4 more rings on this 33 inch circle spacing 3 inches apart
Cut outer and neck rings
Cut a slit between the two rings
Sew a row or two around the neck opening to prevent it stretching . Fold into quarters and mark with pins as shown
Cut 7 strips of 4 inches from contrast fabric and cut 5 strips of 4 inches from the plain fabric
Join 3.5 widths in contrast fabric for outer ring Join 3 widths in plain for next ring Join 2.5 widths in contrast for next ring Join 2 widths in plain for next ring 1 width contrast for neck
Join with French seams
Fold each strip in half and half again . Mark each fold with a pin
Gather each strip from pin to pin ( four sections)
Keeping quarter marker pins in line , pin outer strip to base
Gather between pins to fit along chalk line
Sew to base and remove gathering threads
Repeat for the next ring
And sew into position
Repeat for next ring
Repeat on next ring
Repeat on neck
Add ribbon or bias around neck opening and sew in position
Cut 6 x 12 inches of ribbon and sew in 3 sets either side of opening
Tie in bows to finish
- 1 mt red fabric
- .75 mt contrast fabric
- .55 mt plain fabric
- 3 mts ribbon
