How to make a felt heart garland

Open your heart garland kit and lay out each of the supplies.

Unwrap the embroidery floss from the felt and heart template.

Take 2 sheets of a single color and place one on top of the other with the heart template on top.

Using the disappearing ink pen, trace around the edge of the heart while making sure the ink is dark enough to see on the felt (especially important on darker colors).

With sharp scissors, cut around the edge of the outline.

You should end up with 2 felt hearts.

Easily clean any leftover pen marks with a baby wipe or wet cloth.

Take your bundle of embroidery floss and separate the color that matches your cut felt.

Untie the needle packet.

Use the smaller needle first to stitch to the heart together. The larger needle will be used to string the stuffed hearts together as a garland.

Take your embroidery floss and thread it through the eye of the needle. You may need to trim a fresh end to more easily thread it through.

At the opposite end of the embroidery floss, tie a single knot.

Stick the needle through one of the felt hearts, about 5mm from the edge.

Pull the embroidery floss all the way through until you reach the knot.

Starting from the side opposite of the knot, stick the needle roughly 3mm through both layers of felt. Pull the embroidery floss through, but not all of the way.

Leave a loop big enough to thread through.

Bring the needle back through the loop towards you and pull tight.

You've completed your first blanket stitch! Make sure to pull the stitch tight.

Continue the blanket stitch (through the felt away from you leaving a loop, back through the loop towards you) advancing 3mm over each time.

If you make a mistake or it's not looking the way you want it to, unthread the embroidery floss from the needle.

Using the point of the needle, pull loose your last stitch.

Pull the stitch all the way out, repeating this as many times as necessary to get back to the point where you wish to begin again.

Stitch the heart until you are left with roughly 2-fingers width left unstitched. Take out your stuffing and pull off a small handful.

Pull open the heart and gently push the stuffing in with your fingers.

Continue stuffing until filled to your liking. Re-commence your blanket stitch until the heart is stitched all the way around and tie a knot to finish. Trim the embroidery floss as close as possible.

Repeat the previous steps for each color of felt until you have 20 stuffed felt hearts!

Now it's time to string all of the hearts together. Take your baker's twine and large needle. Thread the twine through the eye of the needle.

You can string your garland either horizontally or vertically. We are stringing ours horizontally. Stick the needle through a hole on the side.

Work the needle through the stuffing to a hole on the other side.

Pull the twine all the way through.

Continue stringing the hearts together.

And you're finished! Hang your very own hand-made stuffed heart garland for everyone to admire.
