Cut 4 20x20 pieces (2 from each pattern, main and lining), 2 36x3 strips for handles of tote bag, and 2 6x9 pieces (I am using lining fabric) for your pockets.

Measure straps and fold sides evenly into each other.

Sew down the open side to reinforce your strap.

Repeat steps 2 - 7 for the second strap. Then you should have two finished straps.

Now that both straps are completed, you're going to move on to the outer shell of the tote bag.

Place the strap on the right side of your main fabric, as shown in the picture. Make sure that your straps aren't twisted before moving to the next step.

Turn your fabric right side down and measure about an inch (as shown in picture).

Sew down the inch of fabric to complete the outer shell of your tote.

Complete steps 10 - 14 for the second strap. Once done, place the right sides together and use a 1/4 inch seam to sew the sides together. Be sure to leave the strap section open.

Set these main pieces aside and move on to the pockets and lining fabric.

Fold the rest of the edges in about a 1/4 to 1/2 an inch and press down.

Measure about 5 inches from the top of your inner shell and place/pin pocket in the center.

Once the inner shell is sewn together, you are going to box out the corners. These next few steps will help with that.

Take your inner shell and place it inside of your outer shell.

Pin the wrong sides together to secure your pieces in place for sewing.

Sew along the top seam of your back to secure the outer and inner shell together.
