STEPS
INGREDIENTS
Gather supplies.
Follow baking instructions on back of cake mix box; substitute whole milk in place of water.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. I used two 8" pans, so I will bake for 33-36 minutes. Or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Thinly slice two lemons and remove seeds. Set aside for decorating cake.
Allow cakes to cool completely on baking racks. Meanwhile, make frosting!
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 stick of salted butter and 1 and 1/2 cups of powdered and mix on low speed (mix in half of powdered sugar until well combined and then mix in the rest).
Then, add 2 tablespoons of milk, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and the zest of 1 lemon and mix until you get the desired consistency.
Prepare to ice the cake; Transfer frosting to piping or Ziploc bag. Make sure to let out all air and push frosting to one corner of the bag. Cut small tip off the corner of the bag with scissors.
Ice first layer.
Place second layer on top; ice top.
Cut lemon slice in half up to the inside of the rind. Repeat with rest of lemon slices.
Twist ends outward to get this look. Arrange on top, center of cake.
See how they are arranged.
