STEPS
TOOLS
Start with the beam, cut it to size that you need and place it in the desired spot. Ours is on the corner of the deck.
Secure the beam with the 90* brackets to the deck. Make sure that it is sturdy enough for your setting(kids, pets, or drunk friends). This should be enough for our setting.
The spikes, that were found on walks on the old rail trail.
The herbs that are going to be used.
This beam had a hook already in so we used this as our first spot to hang a basket.
We hung the first pail of herbs.
Mark a spot where you want to put your spikes and start drilling. We used a 3/4" spade bit and drilled in about 3"-4" deep to hold the spike.
Clean out the hole and stick the spike in to see if it is deep enough. Yup! This looks good!!
Hang the next pail of herbs!! Don't forget to drill holes in the bottom of the pails for drainage.
Find your next spot and driil. You can put as many as you want. We didn't want to get too many on it so we went with six pails.
There all done!!
Looks great!!
- Old barn beam
- Railway spikes
- Some small buckets
- Flowers or herbs to be planted
- Soil for plants
- Couple of 90* brackets
