How to maintain nvq folders

You are in charge of your logbooks, they are the key to finishing your course. You must keep your logbook up to date with your assessments, this means you!

Each of you have of you have one of these forms, fill in your personal details only at the top and place at the front of your folder, your assessor will complete the rest of this form.

These tracker sheets need to be completed by your assessor when you complete a unit, including any observation questions and UPK on-line questions! They will track your progress!

The menus will identify your work products for your assessments. One dish could cover many units, be smart and cover as much criteria as possible.

You will be given assessment plans so you understand what you are being assessed on and you must read, sign, and date these forms!

When you have produced an assessment dish (work product) use the iPad and place card to take a picture. You will be given a copy of this and you must write what it was and portions served. Evidence.

After your assessment, you will be given feedback of your performance, you and your assessor will sign and date. This is NVQ evidence! If you have passed your assessment you will be given a photo

Identify which units that your work product applies to, there is almost always more than one unit each assessment will cover!

When preparing a poultry dish, you will always cover preparing and cooking (2 units!). This applies to fish and meat units as well! Don't forget your vegetable units also!

Fill in the summary of evidence, this is THE MOST IMPORTANT!! Be as detailed as possible against the criteria in the unit. Ask lots of questions if you need to, use correct spelling and punctuation!

Here is an example of an entry, I want yours to be a lot more detailed! Highlight how many portions you served, what the dish was called, make sure that you fill in against the criteria !!

This is the criteria that you write your entries based on! What kind of poultry, cuts, preparations, cooking methods etc. Be detailed and specific! Your assessor will fill in method, criteria only!!

Place completed assessment plans in poly pocket at the back of your logbook.

Place your completed photo evidence in poly pocket at the back of your logbook. Every picture should be signed by assessor and have details of item description and portions sold, assessment number!!

When sufficient practical evidence has been collected for each unit, you will be given supplementary questions to complete units by your assessing chef.

You also need to make time to answer your UPK online questions, this is your responsibility!! Don't leave this until the summer! You will not finish without these tests completed and signed off!

A master unit tracking document is available for viewing on Moodle for all NVQ students, documenting your progress through all your units. This will be updated regularly by your assessor. USE IT!!

YOUR LOGBOOKS NEED YOU!!! IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP THEM UP TO DATE. UNCOMPLETED LOG BOOKS WILL MEAN YOU WON'T PASS YOUR COURSE!!!!!
