Here is how to disable background app refresh for those apps, that you dislike anyway:
Go to the Settings.app
Open "General"
... and go to "Background App Refresh"
Disable those apps, that you don't use that much. Or disable Background App Refresh for all apps, in case your battery life is really bad.
