Get everything you need and head to your nearest ice rink.
Put on your skates.
Make sure you tie them as tightly as possible.
When you're done tying, stand up and try to walk. If they wiggle, they are too lose, and you should retie them. And if not, you're ready to go!
Get on the ice. Be sure to keep your ankles straight, it may feel odd at first, but it will be lots easier and more fun!
Try to march. Work on finding your balance and getting comfortable on the ice.
Try holding your arms out while marching to provide extra balance.
Now try swizzles!
Start by putting your heels together to create a v-shape with your skates.
Now bend your knees and push forward.
Move your skates from heel to toes, heel to toes, heel to toes, creating an oval-ish motion.
When you feel you're ready, you can try backwards swizzles. This time, move your skates in a toe to heel motion. This will get you comfortable moving backwards on the ice.
It is very important to be able to confidently and correctly do both forwards, and backwards swizzles, because they are the backbone of figure skating.
And don't be afraid to fall!
Thanks for watching, I hope this helped! And good luck!
