How to give the right impression with a profile pic
Give the Right Impression With a Profile Pic

STEPS
TOOLS
FIRST: Think of what impression you want to make. One of genuinity? Power? Creativity?

Upward shots evoke power. You're forcing the viewer to look up to you. Careful, though. This kind of shot could easily come off as douchey.

Upward shots are slimming, but high angles can give off the impression of smallness or naïveté. If this is what you're going for, congrats. If not, try a less extreme angle.

I know you want to show off your lovely eyes, but careful with the closeness. Studies have shown that people tend to find close-up shots of faces less attractive and approachable.

For a creative look, just be creative! Play with angles, extreme lighting and shadows, and odd settings. Turn your pic into art!

As far as lighting goes, I generally prefer as natural as possible. Go outside or just stand in front of a window.

For a genuine look, just take a picture somewhere it's natural for you to be! In this one I'm standing outside my apartment.

Pictures with friends, of course, give off the impression that you have friends, that you're friendly and approachable.
Oh! Also, to give off an approachable image, don't go too heavy on the editing. You're wonderful the way you are! If you believe that about you, others will too!
To evoke natural beauty, take a photo with something naturally beautiful! People will associate you with that, and see the beauty in you as well!

This was meant to be a representation of that, but the closest thing to natural beauty I had available was a potted plant. You'll just have to take my word for it. :)
FINALLY: Pictures aren't everything! Live your life the way you want people to see you!
