A lot of people are having trouble with coins or other objects getting stuck behind their front ashtray on their passat.

This is causing trouble with opening the ashtray-lid. Unfortunently, it's quite a big job. But with this guide you will hopefully have a working ashtray-lid in an instance.

1. Turn the key until you can put the shifter in 3rd gear.

2. Pull out the button. You might have to pull a bit hard.

3. Pull down the chrome sleeve under the shifterknob.

4. The shifter knob should now come right off.

5. Now you have to remove 4 screws, 2 on each side, pointed out by the red arrows in the picture

6. Now lift up the what I like to call "st(ash)tray", located under the armrest. Should come out pretty easily. If not - us a small flat screwdriver to carefully pry it open.

7. You should now be able to see three bolts, remove. For easier access follow step 8.

8. Remove the rear ashtray by unscrewing two screws in the ashtray.

9. On the right side of the picture there is a cableholder, you need to cut this off.

10. Now pull up the handbrake as far as you can.

11. You should now be able to separate the rear part of the center console from the front and lift it up over the handbrake lever.

12. Now just slide of the front part over the shifter.

13. Now remove the coins and other objects, found myself a little treasure under mine :)

14. Now just follow the steps backwards and you're done!!!
