How to fingerpaint the creation of adam

This is the detail that we will be focusing on. You will notice that Michelangelo focused on the structure of the body. He was a sculptor more than a painter. So we will have a lot of pinky work to do

We have our colors on our plate and our roll of towels by our side. Let's do this!!

Wet your canvas with a thin coat of liquid gray so all your colors will blend. Then work in your background color of a white and umber mixture.

On the bottom left add a blue and white mix and a straight umber. Then take a pinky and some Sienna and start sketching God's hand. Remember how the artist focuses on each muscle.

Just as God's hand is strong and almighty, so is the languid hand of Adam before his creation. The muscles are there, but the hand has yet to be touched with life.

Add base color and shadows with umber and sienna. Your pinky and thumb are essential to scrub in color and let the two colors mix.

Add a little more sienna for outline and shadow. A clean thumb also pulls out some highlights as you go.

Ok, now to work detail on the Hand of God. Start with your pinky, The Lord's pinky, and some sienna.

Now some sienna on the the other two fingers. It is fun but taxing work, but Michelangelo did it on his back, in the air, on scaffolding. We are ok.

Add sienna shadow around the thumb and onto the index finger.

A last layer of shadow onto the entire Hand of God and a nail onto His thumb.

Finally, add a little umber mid tones and touch up the background around where you have worked. The Lord's Hand is done.

Take a nap. Then look at Adam's hand. I adjusted the shape if the index finger before I started.

Sienna all the way around Adam's hand to get started. Also add thicker shadow under his thumb onto his wrist. Add some highlights with a clean thumb, and a nail with sienna and your nail.

A little more shadow, and a little umber mid tone. Step back and look for last adjustments. I darkened the lower left corner. When satisfied, sign with your pinky.
