How to eliminate certain words on a google search

Let's say I am searching on Google for 'bass'. There are many things that will pop up with that word.

I am looking for the INSTRUMENT- not the fish! So, how can I refine my search??

Add a (-) and the word you want filtered!!

Let's say I am researching tigers.

I am not meaning the Detroit Tigers!

Let's eliminate baseball by typing in -baseball - no spaces.

Ok- we had one baseball site sneak through the filter, but now all the sites are about the tiger of the jungle!!
