How to draw a flower

First make sure you have a tidy desk, not like mine ;)

That's better

Make sure you have everything you need

An HB pencil will be good enough for now :)

Get your workspace tidy again

We'll start with the bud

Then the petals around it

Now we can start adding detail to the petals

I thickened the outline because we are going to shade the inner parts a bit and add grooves to them. Without the thickened outlines, they become a bit messy

Make the edges bold first

So now we have the petals done, lets work on the stem and the leaves

If I remember correctly, the leaves have a kind of spikey-looking edge to them

The leaves have a darker colour towards the stem, because that's where the light reaches them the least

Continue shading

The stem goes from dark shading at the top, to lighter shading lower down, where the flowers shadow is less bold

Now, sharpen your pencil (or use a fine tip pen, if you think that looks better) and draw lots of tiny circles to fill in the bud of the flower with the seed things it contains

You can stop now, or you can colour it in. I'll finish the guide with colour, so you can see what it could look like

I went for a pink shade on the leaves, going darker around the shaded parts (excuse the camera for the few details)

I then filled in the bud with yellow, and used different shades of green on the stem and leaves: the shaded parts and the stem were done with a darker shade, and the tips were done with light green

End result :)
