Draw several circles.
Using a ruler, draw vertical stripes across the paper. Do not draw inside the circles.
Using a ruler, draw horizontal stripes across the paper. Do not draw inside the circles.
Draw a vertical line through the center of the circle.
Draw several lines that curve away from the straight line.
Do the same on the opposite side.
Draw a horizontal line through the center of the circle.
Draw several lines that curve away from the straight line.
Do the same on the opposite side.
Repeat in all circles.
Choose a complementary color pair. Use one color to begin the background, leaving every other square blank. Alternate the starting color for each row to create a checkerboard pattern.
Use the other complementary color to color in the blank squares of the checkerboard background.
Use one of the complementary colors to begin the checkerboard pattern inside the circle.
Use the other complementary color to complete the checkerboard pattern inside the circle.
Color all of the circles with the checkerboard pattern.
Use a black colored pencil to shade the same edge of all circles to create the illusion of depth as though there is a sphere hovering over the checkerboard.
